Qlik has announced a strategic partnership with Starburst aimed at helping enterprises convert fragmented data environments into governed, AI-ready intelligence. The collaboration combines Qlik’s data integration, replication, analytics, and agentic workflows with Starburst’s federated query engine, semantic context layer, and AI-driven capabilities.
The partnership addresses a critical challenge in enterprise AI adoption: data fragmentation across hybrid environments, including cloud platforms, data lakes, warehouses, SaaS applications, and on-premises systems. While AI technologies have advanced rapidly, organizations continue to struggle with disconnected datasets, inconsistent definitions, and governance gaps that limit AI effectiveness.

“The bottleneck for enterprise AI isn’t the models it’s the data architectures they’re asked to work with. Fragmented, ungoverned data doesn’t just slow AI down; it makes the outcomes untrustworthy,” said James Fisher, Chief Strategy Officer, Qlik.
By integrating federated access with strong governance and data operationalization, Qlik and Starburst enable enterprises to query data where it resides while maintaining control and context. This approach reduces the need for costly centralization, minimizing latency, compliance risks, and vendor lock-in.
A key highlight of the collaboration is the ability to support both business intelligence (BI) and agentic AI use cases. Starburst provides federated data access with a unified semantic layer, while Qlik orchestrates workflows, transforms data, and delivers analytics. Together, the solution allows business users, analysts, and AI agents to work with trusted, contextual data across distributed environments.
The companies are also developing AI-assisted data pipelines, where natural language queries can be translated into optimized SQL workflows. This capability is expected to significantly accelerate data pipeline development while ensuring governance and validation standards remain intact.
“Enterprises need more than access to data: they need AI that understands what that data means,” said Matt Fuller, Founder and VP of AI & ML, Starburst.

Additionally, the partnership includes validated reference architectures for hybrid and multi-cloud deployments, combining Qlik Replicate®, Starburst Enterprise, and Qlik analytics tools. These frameworks are designed for enterprises operating in regulated industries that require strong compliance, lineage tracking, and policy enforcement.
Ultimately, the collaboration offers customers greater architectural flexibility enabling them to use existing data platforms, move data only when necessary, and ensure that AI systems operate on accurate, governed, and meaningful information.
As enterprises increasingly rely on AI for decision-making, the Qlik-Starburst partnership positions itself as a practical solution to bridge the gap between distributed data ecosystems and trustworthy AI outcomes.
