Recognition highlights Fortinet’s execution and push to converge networking, security, AI and cloud across hybrid enterprises
Fortinet has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Hybrid Mesh Firewall, while also being positioned highest for Ability to Execute for the second consecutive year.
The recognition comes as enterprise networks become increasingly distributed across data centers, branches, public clouds, operational technology and remote environments. For security leaders, this fragmentation is creating pressure to enforce consistent policies without multiplying security products and operational complexity.
Fortinet’s Hybrid Mesh Firewall strategy is built around FortiGate and FortiOS, providing a common operating foundation across physical, virtual, cloud-native and as-a-service deployments. The company says this architecture enables organizations to standardize security policies while adapting enforcement to performance, regulatory, sovereignty and operational requirements.

The broader strategy also reflects Fortinet’s long-standing convergence of networking and security. FortiOS combines next-generation firewall capabilities with routing and secure SD-WAN, allowing enterprises to manage connectivity and security through a more unified architecture.
AI is becoming another layer of this convergence. Fortinet is expanding AI-driven automation and analytics to help security and networking teams investigate incidents, streamline routine operations and improve policy management. The company is also incorporating post-quantum cryptography and multi-cloud orchestration as enterprises prepare for emerging security and infrastructure challenges.
For CIOs and CISOs, the Gartner recognition is significant less for the individual firewall category and more for what it says about the changing role of enterprise firewalls. As hybrid infrastructure becomes the norm, firewalls are increasingly evolving into distributed policy, visibility and enforcement platforms spanning networking, cloud, AI and cyber-physical environments.
