AWS Revolutionizes IoT Connectivity with New Managed Integrations

At Mobile World Congress 2025 in BarcelonaAmazon Web Services (AWS) introduced the preview of managed integrations for AWS IoT Device Management. This new feature simplifies cloud onboarding for IoT devices, unifies device control across brands and protocols, and enhances smart home and enterprise IoT applications.

“At TELUS, we’re making bold moves to solidify our position as a global leader in smart home technology with the SmartHome+ platform. In partnership with AWS, we’ve built a turnkey solution that seamlessly integrates smart home devices and services, transforming how consumers automate and control their homes.”

— Dwayne Benefield, Chief Product Officer, TELUS

Addressing IoT Fragmentation

Despite the rapid adoption of IoT in smart homes, security, and automationdevice fragmentation remains a major challenge. Manufacturers operate in silos with proprietary communication protocols, leading to integration roadblocks. AWS aims to solve this by offering:

  • Support for ZigBee, Z-Wave, and Wi-Fi devices
  • 80+ pre-built device data model templates
  • A comprehensive catalog of cloud-to-cloud connectors
  • Secure cloud connectivity, authentication, and encryption

Accelerating IoT Innovation for Telcos

Telecom providers like TELUS have already adopted this feature for their SmartHome+ platform, enabling consumers to connect diverse devices while leveraging AWS’s AI and ML services for automation, energy savings, and home security.

“The average home has more than a dozen connected devices, and we’re transforming how these devices work together,” said Dwayne Benefield, Chief Product Officer at TELUS“AWS’s managed integrations allow us to deliver smarter home experiences with minimal investment and fast time to market.”

A Game-Changer for Developers

AWS’s new managed integrations eliminate complex protocol implementations, allowing developers to:

✔ Seamlessly onboard and manage IoT devices
✔ Enable cross-brand automation
✔ Ensure enterprise-grade security
✔ Leverage AI-powered device management

Getting Started

The preview of managed integrations is now available. Developers can start by logging into the AWS IoT console, configuring integrations, and leveraging AWS’s SDKs and cloud-to-cloud connectors for seamless IoT development.
