VMware AirWatch Crosses One Million Licenses in India

India emerges as one of the fastest growing markets for VMware’s End-User Computing business with the AirWatch selling like hot cakes across the country

VMware has sold over a million licenses of its VMware AirWatch Mobile Device Management solution to enterprises in India to help them manage the mobility needs of their workforce. The company also announced that India was one of the fastest growing markets for its End User Computing business globally. AirWatch saw some notable wins in India – including Air Works, Axis Bank, Fullerton, IDFC Bank, Indigo Airlines, Mindtree, OYO Rooms, Wipro, and Zomato among others.

Mobility and the shift to the mobile-cloud era are among the most transformational trends in business today. With the potential to affect many employees, customers and business interactions, mobility can empower organizations to be more competitive and successful.

As per the release, VMware AirWatch Mobile Device Management helps businesses to address the challenges associated with mobility by providing a simplified, efficient way to view and manage all devices from a central admin console. The solution enables businesses to enroll devices in their enterprise environment quickly, configure and update device settings over-the-air, and secure mobile devices.

The release also said that in VMware’s End-User Computing business grew over 30% year-over-year, bringing the total annual bookings run rate to over $1.2 billion in 2015. In February, VMware unveiled VMware Workspace ONE, a new platform for delivering secure digital workspaces for flexible work styles and BYOD. Using the principles of consumer simple and enterprise secure, the digital workspace delivered by VMware will address the end user and enterprise IT business mobility needs by aggregating all devices, applications and services while securely managing them through unified common access and identity.

According to IDC, India represents one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in Asia-Pacific. Smartphone shipments to the country grew 28.8 percent to cross 100 million units in 2015, with Samsung, Micromax, Lenovo, Intex, and Lava leading the market. As devices become more affordable, IDC expects India to maintain a double-digit growth rate in the smartphone market. With the number of mobile internet users in India projected to double and cross the 350 million mark by mid-2016 according to a report by IAMAI and IMRB International, business mobility may emerge as a top priority for Indian enterprises.”
