The Secure Board launches cyber confidence 5-step program and tailored coaching for board directors

The Secure Board Advisory Service today launches a new five-step program and tailored coaching to help Australian board directors and c-suite leaders navigate cyber security risks.

In 2021, cybercrime is expected to be a $6 trillion business, more profitable than the illicit drug trade and human trafficking. With an unprecedented acceleration in significant cyber-attacks and IT failures in Australia, some with spectacular consequences for business and governments, these new programs will help board directors understand the risks and manage their responsibilities.

Award winning author of The Secure CIO and co-author of the The Secure Board book, Claire Pales warns, “The threat of cyber-attacks is significant, and the impact can be devastating.  Australian company directors are not immune and can be found personally liable in a cyber security crisis.  It is imperative that all Australian board members, regardless of their technical level of expertise, understand the risks so they can keep their organisations safe.”

The Secure Board’s customised and confidential 5-step program guides board directors and c-suite leaders through a journey to improve their understanding and confidence of cyber security within the context of their organisation.

Anna Leibel, co-author of The Secure Board book and co-founder of the Secure Board Advisory Service, explains the 5-step program is designed to “raise the confidence and knowledge of the board and executive providing the ability to ask questions and understand the answers to keep the organisation cyber safe. This confidence allows boards to manage cyber risk effectively, govern cyber strategy and lead organisations through the changing threat landscape.”

The personalised and confidential one-on-one coaching, provides board directors with information tailored to their unique circumstances and providing advice contextual to their organisation’s current and future cyber challenges.

“Our one-on-one coaching is based on real-world examples, not theory. Board directors can ask questions specific to the context of their board roles rather than simply hearing about generic examples. We also review their organisations cyber security strategy, metrics and risk appetite.  We walk through examples of cyber-related board papers and advise on enterprise-wide engagement, understanding and preparedness,” explains Claire.

Claire Pales and Anna Leibel are experienced corporate leaders with extensive knowledge of the complex cyber security risks facing board members and executives.  They are able to articulate the risks and offer tailored advice, based on over 40 years of experience, to help navigate the cyber security threat landscape.

“Contrary to popular belief, the security team and the CISO do not own business risks. While boards don’t need to be IT experts, they must understand cyber risk. All Australian board directors need to understand the critical elements of governing cyber security risks, the importance of being prepared, and the role each person in the organisation must play in keeping information safe and secure,” stresses Anna.
