Seagate Extends its Relationship with HP

Says will support HP’s Apollo portfolio of products and services, which manage HPC workloads in complex computing environments

Seagate has extended its alliance agreement with HP to equip its high performance computing (HPC) solutions with ClusterStor scale-out storage capabilities. This partnership will support HP’s Apollo portfolio of products and services, which manage HPC workloads in complex computing environments.

“At this level of computing, simplifying the process of deriving insights from large amounts of data is tremendously helpful — especially as we work to achieve breakthrough discoveries in areas such as neuroscience,” said Christopher Hill, principal research engineer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). “The joint solution from HP and Seagate will be integral in helping advance our research.”

Seagate’s ClusterStor combines a unique scale out storage architecture with the Lustre parallel file system together with optimized Seagate storage media to deliver the most scalable and highest performance storage solution for the HPC market. By removing complexities associated with deploying and maintaining traditional high performance storage systems, ClusterStor significantly reduces the time and operational costs required to meet mission-critical needs. In addition to MIT, the enhanced HP HPC solutions will benefit a wide range of users in fields such as bio informatics, pharmaceutical discovery, upstream oil and gas modeling, weather simulation, academic and government research.

“As a result of this partnership, customers can now purchase a complete end-to-end HPC storage solution born from two of the most trusted technology companies in the business,” said Ken Claffey, vice president and general manager, Seagate HPC systems business. “Aligning our expertise is more valuable than ever before as HPC moves into a new era of data-centric computing, which is increasing the need for high performance, scalable storage systems.”
