The new Mumbai IBM Cloud Center is part of a 15 cloud center expansion, and a $1.2 billion investment by IBM Cloud to grow its cloud presence around the world

IBM has opened a 30,000 sq. ft. cloud center in Airoli, Mumbai. This new facility is the latest IBM Cloud Center in the world’s major markets as part of IBM’s global cloud center expansion. The center further expands IBM’s global cloud footprint which includes centers in London, Amsterdam, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, Toronto, Dallas and Raleigh opened this year alone as well as the newly announced Cloud Center opened last week in Paris.

A driving force in the accelerating adoption of cloud computing worldwide is the need for in-country data location to meet requirements for data sovereignty –a new form of customer demand. About 100 nations and territories have already adopted laws that dictate how governments and private enterprises handle personal data. As more data moves to the cloud, nations and territories worldwide are adopting data management laws to protect data held by businesses and governments.

In addition to the need for a global network of cloud centers to address growing client demands, companies also looking for a secure, dedicated and highly available environment that enables greater flexibility and an open cloud. To address this, IBM is also introducing the IBM Cloud OpenStack Services via the IBM Cloud marketplace. This will enable greater interoperability between existing IT systems and off-premise cloud workloads and provides its clients with the means to more easily deploy an OpenStack cloud

The new Mumbai IBM Cloud Center is part of a 15 cloud center expansion, and a $1.2 billion investment by IBM Cloud to grow its cloud presence around the world. IBM’s cloud commitment includes the industry’s only an in-house business consulting division which features more than 40,000 cloud experts who are located around the globe. These experts are dedicated working face-to-face with clients in order to address all of their industry specific needs as they transform to the cloud era.

“This new Mumbai center represents IBM’s latest investment in creating the most extensive network of cloud facilities in the industry,” said Lingraju Sawkar, Director, Integrated Technology Services, Global Technology Services IBM India / SA. “Through this new center we are able to help usher businesses into the cloud era while delivering the levels of resiliency and security that allow them to experience the benefits of this new environment while ensuring they remain protected.”
