BIS and DSCI to Discuss on Security Landscape in IOT and Cloud Computing

The five-day ISO SC 27 meeting will witness over 300 experts deliberating on forging international standards on Privacy, Security and Risk management in IoT, Cloud Computing

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in collaboration with Data Security Council of India (DSCI is hosting the global standards’ meeting – ISO/IEC/ JTC 1/SC 27 Working Groups Meeting in Jaipur at Marriott from 26th to 30th of October, 2015, followed by a half day conference on Friday, 30th October on the importance of Standards in the domain. This is the first time that an international meeting on information security standards is being held in India.

The five-day ISO SC 27 meeting will witness over 300 experts deliberating on forging international standards on Privacy, Security and Risk management in IoT, Cloud Computing and many other contemporary technologies, along with updating of a few existing standards. Experts from Participating Countries, through the five working groups, namely Information Security Management Systems; Cryptography and Security Mechanisms; Security Evaluation, Testing and Specification; Security Controls and Services; and Identity Management and Privacy technologies; competence of security management professionals – will discuss and collaborate on the development of standards encompassing generic methods, techniques and guidelines to address both security and privacy issues.

ISO/IEC/JTC 1/ SC27, a joint technical committee of the international standards bodies – ISO and IEC on Information Technology security techniques, conducts regular meetings across the world with currently 51 countries as ‘Participating Members, that play an active role in the work of technical committees or ‘Working Groups’, along with a few countries as observing members. As a part of these sessions, the participating countries also have rights to vote in all official ballots related to standards, India is one of the participating countries. The representatives of the country, work on the preparation and development of the International Standards and provide feedback to their national organizations. DSCI through BIS, has been participating and encouraging Industry participation in the Working Groups since 2012.

These Working Group meetings are a good step to bring together eminent minds from across the world to discuss the possible standardization solutions in the field of IT Security.”

This award is given each year in recognition of the significant contribution and superior performance of an ISO technical committee or subcommittee to the development of ISO International Standards. Our SC 27 meeting in Jaipur will be the first official celebration of getting this award.”
