Honeywell Unveils AI-Powered Digital Holographic Microscopy for Faster Healthcare Testing and Diagnosis

Honeywell

New AI-driven technology accelerates infection detection, simplifies testing, and enhances efficiency in healthcare and environmental monitoring.

Honeywell has introduced Digital Holographic Microscopy, a revolutionary AI-powered diagnostic technology that streamlines the identification and classification of microscopic particles and cells. Designed for healthcare, environmental safety, and industrial monitoring, this innovation enables faster, more accessible testing where timely analysis is critical.

In healthcare, the technology significantly reduces infection diagnosis time for at-home peritoneal dialysis patients, who are vulnerable to abdominal infections. Currently, lab-based testing takes up to two days, delaying treatment. Honeywell’s portable device uses a laser, image sensor, and disposable microscope slide to capture real-time images, which AI algorithms analyze instantly, allowing faster detection and treatment at the point-of-care.

“We are seeing a growing need for solutions that provide rapid and precise results, empowering healthcare professionals to make informed decisions quickly.”

— Sarah Martin, President, Honeywell Sensing Solutions

“We have invested in innovations like Digital Holographic Microscopy because of their power to make testing and analysis more accessible to patients while also improving patient care and efficiency across our healthcare system,” said Sarah Martin, President, Honeywell Sensing Solutions.

Beyond healthcare, Digital Holographic Microscopy can be used for air quality monitoring by detecting pollutants and for water safety assessments by analyzing microorganisms in liquid samples.

Unlike traditional microscopes that require complex lenses and staining procedures, this AI-driven technology uses holographic imaging to generate high-resolution digital images, which are processed by computational algorithms for immediate analysis. Its portable, cost-effective design makes it ideal for real-time diagnostics outside laboratory settings.

This innovation aligns with Honeywell’s commitment to AI, automation, and advanced sensing solutions, reinforcing its role in healthcare innovation, environmental safety, and industrial monitoring.
