Local data residency to go live next quarter as Figma expands enterprise-grade security and compliance features
Figma has announced a major expansion of its India-focused capabilities with new governance features for enterprise customers and plans to introduce local data hosting starting next quarter. The move comes shortly after the company’s formal India launch and the opening of its Bengaluru office, underscoring its long-term commitment to one of its fastest-growing markets.
India is already one of Figma’s most active regions, with users creating more than 35 million files over the past year. With the introduction of data localization, enterprise customers—especially in regulated sectors such as public services, BFSI, and healthcare—will be able to store Figma file data from FigJam, Make, Sites, Buzz, and Slides entirely within India. Freecharge by Axis Bank and IDFC First Bank will be among the first to test the new capability.
“India is home to our second-largest active user base globally, and we’re listening to the needs of the market. Local data storage and enhanced governance will open up Figma to even more companies,” said Scott Pugh, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, APAC, Figma.
“Figma powers the way our teams build seamless banking experiences, and its data localization initiative reinforces that partnership. It enables us to design with confidence as we build simple, secure, and reliable experiences for millions,” said Govind Krishna, Associate Director of Design, Freecharge by Axis Bank.
The localization rollout in India will complement Figma’s existing data residency regions in Australia, Europe, and the US, offering enterprises more choice and control over how their design and product development data is stored.
Introducing Governance+: Enterprise-Grade Control and Compliance
Figma also unveiled Governance+, a suite of advanced security and governance tools designed to help enterprise teams manage access, enforce security controls, and support compliance requirements. Key features include:
- Centralised Control: Ensures all employee activity takes place within the authorised company environment. Tools such as IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions (NAR) help prevent data from being moved into unauthorised or personal accounts.
- Account Security: Enhancements like Enforced 2FA, Extended Idle Session Timeout, and Multiple Identity Provider (IdP) support reduce risks related to compromised credentials.
- Data Governance: Tools such as the Discovery Pipeline provide improved visibility into organisation-wide Figma activity and help enterprises meet retention, audit, and legal discovery standards.
Governance+ builds on Figma’s existing enterprise security features including SSO, SCIM-based user provisioning, activity logs, and restrictions on external collaborators.
With local hosting, expanded governance tools, and an on-ground presence in Bengaluru, Figma is accelerating its efforts to support India’s design and product development ecosystem—one that is increasingly driving global innovation.
