Acronis has appointed cybersecurity and IT veteran Gerald Caron as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), strengthening its focus on security governance, product protection and incident response as demand grows for managed cybersecurity services.
Caron will lead the company’s global security strategy and operations, overseeing security governance and compliance, employee awareness, incident prevention and response, and business continuity. He will also work with research and development teams to embed security throughout the product lifecycle and collaborate with legal, IT and business leaders on data protection, privacy and disaster recovery.
“Security is fundamental to how we build, operate, and protect Acronis products and services. Gerald will work closely with our R&D teams to further strengthen security throughout the product lifecycle, while driving a consistent approach to internal security and compliance.”
— Jan-Jaap Jager, CEO, Acronis
The appointment comes as Acronis expands its managed detection and response (MDR) business, which the company says has grown by more than 50% quarter over quarter. Its Acronis MDR by Acronis Threat Research Unit (TRU) service provides managed service providers (MSPs) with round-the-clock threat monitoring and incident response. The company has also introduced GenAI Protection to help MSPs monitor AI usage, safeguard sensitive data and defend against malicious prompt manipulation.
Caron brings more than 20 years of cybersecurity and IT leadership experience across government and private-sector organisations. He most recently served as Program Management Director at SAIC and previously held the position of Vice President of Cybersecurity at RIVA Solutions. He also served as a member of the US Senior Executive Service and held CIO roles at the Departments of Commerce and Health and Human Services.
“I’m excited to build on that foundation alongside our security, research, and engineering teams. My focus is on ensuring security remains central to how we build, innovate, and operate as we expand and enhance protection for Acronis partners and customers,” Caron said.
The leadership appointment reflects the growing importance of integrating internal security, product engineering and threat intelligence as cybersecurity providers expand their service portfolios. For Acronis, strengthening these capabilities also supports its strategy of helping MSPs deliver security and recovery services to businesses facing increasingly complex threats.
