IBM and AMD Power Zyphra’s Next-Gen AI Push with Advanced Training Infrastructure

IBM and AMD

The partnership delivers one of the largest frontier AI training clusters to date, combining IBM Cloud’s enterprise-grade reliability with AMD’s leadership in high-performance AI acceleration.

IBM and AMD have joined forces to deliver advanced AI infrastructure to Zyphra, a San Francisco-based open-source superintelligence company. The collaboration equips Zyphra with a large-scale cluster of AMD Instinct™ MI300X GPUs on IBM Cloud, enabling the training of multimodal foundation models across text, vision, and audio.

Zyphra, recently valued at $1 billion following its Series A funding, is building a new generation of open-source AI focused on neural architectures, long-term memory, and continual learning. Its flagship project, Maia, is designed as a general-purpose superagent to enhance enterprise productivity.

The deal marks the first large-scale deployment of AMD’s full-stack training platform—spanning compute, networking, and accelerators—on IBM Cloud. The infrastructure integrates AMD Pensando Pollara 400 AI NICs and Ortano DPUs, offering high-speed data movement and efficiency gains. Initial deployment began in September, with expansion planned in 2026.

“This collaboration marks the first time AMD’s full-stack training platform has been scaled on IBM Cloud, and Zyphra is honored to lead the way.”

– Krithik Puthalath, CEO, Zyphra

Krithik Puthalath, CEO of Zyphra, described the partnership as transformative: “We’re excited to partner with IBM and AMD to power the next era of open-source, enterprise superintelligence.”

Alan Peacock, GM of IBM Cloud, emphasized the enterprise impact: “Scaling AI workloads faster and more efficiently is a key differentiator in achieving ROI. We are delighted to support Zyphra’s roadmap with AMD to deliver scalable, economical AI infrastructure.”

AMD’s Philip Guido, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, added: “By combining IBM’s enterprise cloud expertise with AMD’s AI acceleration, we are enabling Zyphra’s pioneering multimodal work and helping organizations everywhere unlock real-world outcomes.”

Beyond AI training, IBM and AMD are also advancing quantum-centric supercomputing, combining IBM’s quantum leadership with AMD’s HPC strengths. Together, they are redefining performance, efficiency, and scale for enterprises and startups alike.
