SAP Launches Sovereign Cloud in India to Drive Secure and Compliant Innovation

New offering empowers governments and regulated industries with full data control, compliance with national security guidelines, and AI-driven growth

SAP, a global leader in enterprise application software and business AI, has announced the launch of its SAP Sovereign Cloud in India, a major milestone in the country’s digital sovereignty journey. The new offering, unveiled at SAP Labs India Innovation Park in Bengaluru, is fully compliant with India’s National Information Security Policy & Guidelines (NISPG) and is designed to help governments and regulated industries modernize securely with cloud and AI while retaining complete control over their sensitive data and systems.

The SAP Sovereign Cloud strengthens cloud adoption through four dimensions of sovereignty—data, operational, technical, and legal—enabling Indian enterprises in highly regulated sectors to build secure, compliant, and future-ready digital ecosystems. It also supports flexible deployment models, including an on-site option in customer data centers and a hyperscaler-based model through SAP’s partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As part of the launch, SAP inaugurated a Secure Operational Facility within its Bengaluru campus, purpose-built to meet the stringent requirements of India’s National Security Authorities. This facility will act as a hub for compliance assurance, co-innovation, and the development of sovereign solutions tailored for India’s regulatory landscape.

Digital sovereignty supports public sector and regulated industry customers in creating a foundation that is secure, resilient, and future-ready for growth,” said Martin Merz, President, SAP Sovereign Cloud. “With SAP Sovereign Cloud in India, we are proud to support the country’s path as a growing hub for innovation—offering customers freedom of choice to embrace cloud and AI while retaining full control over data and operations.”

The Sovereign Cloud is built on SAP’s full-stack framework—covering infrastructure, platform, applications, and AI—while leveraging open-source foundations for innovation and flexibility. With AI-driven digital transformation accelerating across industries, SAP’s solution positions itself as a critical enabler of compliant innovation in India.

The launch of SAP Sovereign Cloud in India underscores our unwavering commitment to the nation’s digital transformation journey,” said Manish Prasad, President & Managing Director, SAP Indian Subcontinent. “By ensuring data remains secure, compliant, and within sovereign boundaries, we are enabling India’s regulated industries to innovate fearlessly. This initiative supports the country’s vision of a self-reliant, technologically empowered future—where digital growth is driven by trust, resilience, and strategic sovereignty.”
