Integration brings modern PAM capabilities to Okta Identity platform, addressing cloud, SaaS, and AI-related risks
Okta has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Axiom Security, a modern, identity-centric Privileged Access Management (PAM) provider built for cloud, SaaS, and database environments. The acquisition is aimed at expanding Okta’s privileged access capabilities and delivering enterprises a single control plane for securing sensitive resources across complex IT ecosystems.
With AI adoption accelerating across industries, enterprises are confronting a new wave of identity-related risks. Privileged accounts — often holding the keys to critical systems and data — are increasingly being targeted by cybercriminals and malicious insiders. Okta emphasized that by bringing Axiom’s technology into its Okta Privileged Access offering, customers will gain the ability to extend identity security to more privileged users, applications, and infrastructure, including AI-driven environments.
“As enterprises embrace AI, privileged access becomes the frontline of defense against misuse and data risk.”
The move comes at a time when enterprises are seeking tighter integration between identity and access management (IAM) and privileged access controls. Traditional PAM solutions, often designed for on-premises environments, struggle to keep pace with today’s cloud-first, hybrid, and SaaS-driven architectures. Axiom’s platform was purpose-built for modern infrastructures, enabling contextual controls, real-time monitoring, and granular access policies without introducing operational complexity.
By combining Axiom’s modern PAM with Okta’s industry-leading identity platform, customers will be able to:
- Enforce consistent privileged access policies across on-prem, cloud, and SaaS environments.
- Gain unified visibility into identity and access risks.
- Mitigate emerging AI-related threats linked to data misuse and privileged account exploitation.
Okta noted that privileged access management is no longer a niche capability but a core requirement of identity-first security strategies, particularly as enterprises contend with evolving regulatory and compliance mandates. The acquisition will allow organizations to consolidate identity and privileged access under one security fabric, reducing fragmentation and simplifying operational overhead.
The integration of Axiom into Okta Privileged Access is expected to roll out in phases following the acquisition’s close, with Okta assuring customers of a seamless transition.
With this move, Okta is reinforcing its position as a trusted partner for enterprises navigating the AI era — where identity is the new perimeter and privileged access is the critical line of defense.
