Vedanta Aluminium has taken a significant step in its Industry 4.0 journey with the deployment of ALAISA (Aluminium AI Support Agent), a humanoid, AI‑powered assistant, at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO). The system is now operational at BALCO’s smelter complex in Chhattisgarh and is designed to enhance shop‑floor capability, operational efficiency, and safety compliance in aluminium manufacturing.
Developed as a real‑time training and decision‑support interface, ALAISA integrates conversational AI with plant‑specific operational intelligence. It delivers contextual guidance on standard operating procedures, maintenance practices, and critical safety protocols directly at the point of operation, helping frontline teams access accurate information during live processes.
Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said the deployment reflects the company’s focus on embedding advanced digital technologies into core operations. He noted that combining AI‑driven insights with shop‑floor expertise strengthens safety, improves process reliability, and supports the development of a more confident and skilled workforce.
In its initial phase, ALAISA has trained over 100 employees, offering structured learning modules, real‑time query resolution, and assessment‑based evaluations that allow supervisors to track skill progression and comprehension. Early feedback indicates faster resolution of operational queries, improved access to technical knowledge, and increased confidence among employees during operations.
The deployment positions BALCO among early adopters of humanoid AI systems in core manufacturing in India’s metals sector. It complements Vedanta Aluminium’s broader digital transformation initiatives, including predictive maintenance across more than 2,000 equipment points, IoT‑enabled monitoring of 600 machines, and the use of autonomous drones for mining safety and surveillance.
ALAISA forms part of a wider strategy to leverage automation, analytics, and intelligent systems across the supply chain, smelting, and downstream operations, reinforcing Vedanta Aluminium’s push toward safer, more efficient, and future‑ready manufacturing.
