Hitachi Vantara Named Leader in Object Storage by GigaOm, Introduces Industry-First S3 Table Support in VSP One Object

Hitachi Vantara

Hitachi Vantara, the data infrastructure and hybrid cloud subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., has been recognized as a Leader in the latest GigaOm Radar for Object Storage, affirming its innovation and strategic vision in modern data management. The recognition centers on the company’s Virtual Storage Platform One Object (VSP One Object), which has rapidly evolved since its debut in late 2024 to become a cornerstone of scalable, intelligent storage solutions.

A standout feature in the latest release is native support for Amazon S3 Tables, a first in the industry. This breakthrough allows enterprises to run high-performance, SQL-based analytics directly on open-format object data—eliminating the need for complex data pipelines, extraction, or transformation. By enabling structured queries on unstructured data, VSP One Object bridges the gap between traditional data lakes and modern lakehouse architectures.

“By enabling SQL queries directly on object storage, you eliminate the need for complex data pipelines and reduce infrastructure overhead,” said Octavian Tanase, Chief Product Officer at Hitachi Vantara. “This provides data lake simplicity with enterprise-grade power.”

The GigaOm Radar evaluated 22 vendors, highlighting performance, security, and edge-readiness as key differentiators. Hitachi Vantara earned top marks for reporting and analyticsstorage optimization, and public cloud integration, including support for S3 Object Lock and S3 Tables. These capabilities empower organizations to monitor usage patterns, identify stale data, and enhance security across hybrid environments.

“Hitachi Vantara’s strategy centers on the VSP One common data plane, designed to unify block, file, and object storage,” said Whit Walters, GigaOm analyst. “VSP One Object delivers scalable, secure, and self-healing storage for diverse workloads like backups, archives, AI, and analytics.”

The platform also supports open formats like Apache Iceberg, automating tasks such as compaction and metadata cleanup—traditionally handled by specialized teams. This reduces operational overhead and accelerates time-to-insight.

Looking ahead, VSP One Object will integrate with NVMe-QLC and TLC flash-based storage, offering improved price-performance for demanding workloads. The recognition adds to Hitachi Vantara’s growing list of accolades, including the 2025 Fortress Cybersecurity Award and leadership positions in multiple GigaOm Radar reports.
