Equinix, the world’s digital infrastructure company, has launched its first International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Chennai, CN1, marking a major step in strengthening India’s AI-ready digital backbone.
Located in Siruseri on a six-acre campus, CN1 opens with 800 cabinets of capacity, scalable to 4,250 cabinets, supported by an initial $69 million investment. The facility is engineered for 99.999% uptime and integrates Equinix’s interconnection services, including Equinix Fabric®, to provide enterprises with secure, high-performance access to hybrid multicloud ecosystems.

“This milestone highlights our commitment to empowering India’s position as a global technology hub while ensuring sustainability and innovation remain at the core of our operations.”
— Manoj Paul, Managing Director, India, Equinix
The AI-ready infrastructure is liquid cooling-enabled, designed to handle high-density, compute-intensive workloads driving AI and emerging technologies. Strategically interconnected with Equinix’s three data centers in Mumbai, CN1 strengthens low-latency access to global cloud providers and business ecosystems.
Paul credited support from the Tamil Nadu Government, SIPCOT, and Guidance in enabling this launch, emphasizing Chennai’s rise as a hub for AI, research, and innovation.
With this opening, Equinix now operates over 270 data centers worldwide, including four in India, underscoring its role in supporting the nation’s digital transformation and AI-driven future.
