New global study reveals rising AI anxiety among CISOs and the growing complexity of cyber risk management
Arctic Wolf’s newly released 2025 Trends Report signals a dramatic shift in global cybersecurity priorities—AI and large language models (LLMs) have overtaken ransomware as the leading concern among IT and security leaders.

Based on insights from over 1,200 decision-makers across 15 countries, the report reveals that 29% of leaders now view AI, LLMs, and privacy risks as their top concern, compared to 21% who still cite ransomware, malware, and data extortion. The research also highlights the increased complexity in managing cybersecurity risks in the face of rapidly evolving threat vectors.

“AI has swiftly moved from an enabler to a double-edged sword—creating as much risk as it solves,” said Dan Schiappa, President of Technology and Services at Arctic Wolf. “As organizations embrace AI-powered tools, maintaining focus on detection, response, and incident readiness is more critical than ever.”
Other key findings include:
- 52% of organizations experienced a breach in the past year, but 97% of those breaches were disclosed—reflecting progress in compliance and transparency.
- 70% faced a significant cyberattack in 2024, with malware and business email compromise dominating.
- Among ransomware victims, 76% paid, with 90% using professional negotiators—leading to reduced payouts in over half the cases.
- While 84% use next-gen endpoint tools, only 40% report full visibility across their environments.
The findings underscore a dual challenge: staying ahead of sophisticated threats while modernizing security operations for AI-integrated environments.
