New enhancements to Vulnerability Priority Rating help security teams cut through the noise, reduce risk, and act faster with real-world, contextual insights
In a bold step toward smarter cybersecurity risk management, Tenable®, the exposure management company, has announced a major upgrade to its industry-leading Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR) — now infused with generative AI, real-time threat intelligence, and context-aware scoring.
Since its original launch in 2019, Tenable VPR has empowered organizations to move beyond static Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) ratings — which typically classify 60% of vulnerabilities as high or critical — by zeroing in on the most dangerous 3%. With the new AI-driven enhancements, VPR now takes this precision to a new level, helping teams focus on the top 1.6% of vulnerabilities that truly pose business risk.
“Tenable VPR shows us what attackers are actually exploiting right now. It helps us focus on what truly matters.”
— Jorge Orchilles, Sr. Director, Readiness & Proactive Security, Verizon
“Our biggest problem was noise,” said Jorge Orchilles, Senior Director at Verizon. “Tenable VPR changed that by showing us what attackers are actually exploiting. It lets us focus our resources on the handful of issues that truly matter.”
The new AI-powered VPR delivers detailed explainability on why a vulnerability matters, whether it has been weaponised by threat actors, and how to remediate it — instantly. AI-generated threat summaries, real-world attack context, and actionable mitigation steps make the tool not just powerful, but accessible to frontline security teams.
Additional enhancements include:
- Industry and regional context: Organisations can prioritise threats relevant to their vertical and geography.
- Advanced filtering and metadata: Enables deeper customisation for specific use cases and regulatory needs.
“Tenable VPR brings unmatched precision and depth to cyber operations,” said Eric Doerr, Chief Product Officer at Tenable. “With these enhancements, we’re giving teams clarity on where they are exposed, why it matters, and how to act decisively.”
The upgraded VPR is part of Tenable’s AI-powered exposure management platform, which serves over 44,000 customers globally.
