Western Digital’s WD Purple recognized for ‘Smart Solution-Safety & Security’

Western Digital’s surveillance drive ‘WD Purple’ won the BW Businessworld Smart Cities Award for the category ‘Smart Solution Of The Year, at the 5th BW Businessworld Smart Cities Conclave and Awards held on 20th December, 2017, at The Imperial, Janpath, New Delhi. The award was handed over by Chief Guest Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister, Housing &Urban Affairs, Government of India.

The product won the award for its safety/security smart solution implementation at the Sri Kashi Vishwanaath Mandir in Varanasi, where millions come in for ‘darshan’ every year. Here, the surveillance systems were upgraded to a hybrid system containing both IP and HD Analog Systems, with redundant recordings kept at 2 different locations. CCTVs were required for addressing crowd management, pilferage and to prevent nuisance and damages made by the visiting crowd. The Mandir has also been a constant target for terrorist attacks. Therefore, availability of data for post event analysis was of paramount importance.

“We are very proud that Western Digital has been recognized for playing a role in the safety and security of Mandir and its visitors,” said Khalid Wani, Managing Director, Sales- India, Western Digital Corporation. “Video surveillance is a focus market for the company and not only for public safety monitoring but also for applications ranging from retail to smart-city infrastructure.”

Western Digital Corporation has played a major role in supporting the Smart Cities initiative through its active participation in the survey and report along with the Smart Cities Council of India, and also by providing storage solutions for making cities smarter and safer. In line with this are the WD Purple™ surveillance drives, which are optimized for a 24/7, always-on, high-definition security systems, with technology to help reduce video frame loss, and provide consistent and extended performance.
