Thomas Kurian takes over as new Google Cloud chief

Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Diane Greene has declared in a blog post on Friday that she would be stepping down and Oracle’s ex-product chief Thomas Kurian will take over her position. It has been anticipated that Kurian will join Google on November 26. “I believe that he’ll do an amazing job helping to take Google Cloud to the next level. Thomas has 22 years of experience at Oracle; most recently he was President of Product Development,” she said.

She will continue as CEO through January, working with Kurian to ensure a smooth transition. Greene, who will remain a director on the Alphabet board, had joined Google in December 2015 to run its cloud business.

He spent 22 years with Oracle, the world’s second-largest software maker, under Executive Chairman Larry Ellison. Initially, he worked as a software maker. Then, he joined McKinsey & Co. as an engagement manager as well as a business analyst. Finally, he settled at Oracle where he reached the culmination of success, becoming the president of the company. He has been graduated from Princeton University in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Later, he did an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
