Supreme Court Website hacked, US and UK warn against cyber warfare – Is India ready?

After the alleged hack on Ministry of Defence, the official website of the Indian Supreme Court was also taken down by malicious hackers.

Hours back, the official website supremecourtofindia.nic.in read “hackeado por HighTech Brazil HacTeam,” translating to “Hacked by HighTech Brazil HacTeam” with an image of a big leaf along with the message.

The motive of the hack is rather unclear and it is still being investigated if the earlier hack on MoD is related to this one.

With US and UK issuing constant warnings suggesting that the Russian Government is waging war, the bigger question arises is if the Indian Cyber Security Infrastructure is really ready for a cyber warfare

Comments from Ankush Johar, Director at Infosec Ventures – an organisation that provides complete infrastructure security solutions for commercial and government clients of all sizes

Diplomacy is being played out in the cyber world increasingly. Western governments including US and UK have brought this issue up at the parliament level that state-sponsored attackers from Russia are waging a cyber war on critical national infrastructure as well as enterprises big and small.

Is it possible that India has been caught in the crossfire given that reports (source: CERT-In) say that 114 government portals were compromised between April 2017 and January 2108 or could these been deliberate attempts by mischievous independent hackers and India itself needs to monitor and them counter 1st by defence and then by offence to mitigate the risks involved.
